FAMILY TOURS

May 24th, 2012

Adventurous enough to keep the kids happy and yet  safe enough that you can relax , Southern Morocco is an ideal destination for families. We pride ourselves in doing out of the ordinary things which will be magical memories for years to come. We can journey off the beaten track in the footsteps of camel caravans across the desert with our own camels. This camping adventure is a real highlight for many of the children who have travelled with us.  While the comfort of a 4×4 and the treat of  hotel swimming pools is at the other end of the spectrum.  We can provide the tour to meet your family’s needs.

KASBAH ROUTE AND THE DRAA VALLEY

May 22nd, 2012

Discover the scenery and architecture of cultures past and present

One of the longest rivers in Morocco, the Draa originates in High Atlas and snakes its way through the desert  creating a magical landscape of irrigated fields, lush palmeraies, rocky promontories and of course imposing Kasbahs.  Tributaries carve their way through stunning mountains creating  the dramatic Dades and Todra Gorges.  While the wider parts of the valley are where the famous  Rose du Maroc is grown and celebrated in an annual festival.

This is an incredible backdrop to discover the history and culture of the peoples who built and still live in the hundreds of Kasbahs that make this area of Morocco unique.  The Kasbahs themselves  are fortified houses with an almost perfect design

TREKKING WITH CAMELS – SAHARA STYLE

May 22nd, 2012

Explore the wilderness and meet the nomads of the stunning Sahara desert.

There is nothing quite like the thrill of climbing the summit of a Saharan sand dune to watch the sunset, or to experience the peace when walking for the whole day without seeing another soul. A trek in the desert is as much a meditative experience as it is a travel adventure.

To walk alongside the camels and become part of the rhythm of daily life of the trek  is magical. The walking itself is only part of the experience – to rest beneath a tamarisk tree,  take the camels to the well,  and of course  enjoy dinner under the stars around the camp fire are the antidotes to a modern stressful lifestyle.

The  landscape changes from  seas of sand – dunes rolling into the distance, to dried up river valleys, surprising oases, rocky wilderness and mountains  usually somewhere on the horizon.

And most surprising of all are the nomads – the people of the desert who with their herds of goats and camels eke out a living. It is not unusual to find a gathering of nomads around the fire discussing the desert news . Who is camping at Chegaga? Where is the best water and grazing for the camels? Could a sandstorm be coming?

Their knowledge of the desert is unparalleled and we pride ourselves in working with them to bring you an unforgettable experience

BERBER VILLAGES SPECIALIST TOUR AND TREK

May 22nd, 2012

Travel back in time on a journey through the Berber Villages of the Ante Atlas mountains.  The way of life  here has changed little for hundreds of years.  This area is off the beaten track, a region where few outsiders venture.  Yet  it is still  relatively accessible , even by 4 x4 we can visit the villages in the valleys and on the lower slopes.  We can explore picturesque fruit orchards of fig and apricot trees, almonds and olives. Here there are  villages where the olive oil is still pressed by huge stones, donkeys are the main transportation and the fields are the hub of village social life.

But for the ultimate Berber village adventure we must climb higher into the mountains and trek to the most remote settlements.  Many communities still move between two villages on a seasonal migration between the valleys and the upper terraces. While we trek mules or donkeys carry everything we need for our self sufficient camp. We pride ourselves on small groups – no more than 10 to ensure an intimate experience.  All itineraries can be tailored according to the interests and ambition of the group.  For comfortable  trekking  we recommend  spring or late summer, September and October as ideal times to explore  and experience  this  scenic and fascinating area.
